Default Mystery books (audio) for 9yro boy

Ds has listened to almost every kids audio book that our library has on their shelves and we have 4 libraries in our whole system and he has discovered that he LOVES mysteries. There aren't a whole lot of mystery audio books in our library system for kids, so now he has moved up to the teen audios and some adult.

The teen ones have some WORDS!, that I would rather he not hear even though I know that he won't say them. Nothing really terribly bad, but there was SOB on one the other night, so I was kinda shocked.

The adults are really not mysteries, but actually The Hobbit and the other Lord of the Rings titles.

Can you recommend any other mystery books that may be in audio for children? Or maybe some authors that have good adult mysteries that he may like. I am going to check to see if our library system has Sherlock Holmes in audio.

Focus on the family has a radio theatre mystery series (although I have never listened to it).
Some Agatha Christy books are pretty clean. They do have murders, but they aren't gory. The same is true with the Cat Who Series, by Lillian Jackson Brawn. I know that both of these authors have audio books and many libraries have them. However, since these are adult books, you may want to preview them first (Some of them have romantic elements that may not be appropriate for children and some of them do not).

Paige, I didn't know there was a series for Indian in the Cupboard? I will have to look into that.

Susan thanks, I will look into the Westing Game books too. I have never seen them on the shelves, but it is posspible that they are there.

Lindsey, how do I find this radio series?? I will also look to see if I can locate some Agatha Christy books as well.

I looked up the Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew series, but non of them are on CD. Our library doesn't have anything from Sherlock Holmes on CD either.

My almost 7 yo is enjoying The Box Car Children series. There are many titles in the series. It might be a bit young for a 9 yo but very wholesome so it is worth a try.

I have a mystery loving child too so I will be check back to see the suggestions. =)

Oh, we recently listened to The Spiderwick Chronicles audio book(s). It's different from the movie. A bit of a nail bitter for my 7 yo in parts but he was not really scared. He loved it!

We loved the Mysterious Benedict Society, too. Also Artemis Fowl is at my house right now.
