When dh and I were first married and poor little newlyweds, he bought me a great little waffle maker that I wanted from Big Lots. Black & Decker that makes a waffle with letter blocks on one side and letters on the other. On our budget it was quite the splurge. :D It cost $15.00 and we have loved it to death. And now, after almost 18 years, it is time to bury the little thing. ;)
One of my favorite features is that it chirps when the waffle is done. This is a WONDERFUL feature and I really want it on a new waffle iron. I need something to get my attention in our chaos.
If you have a waffle iron that is still made, not too expensive, and chirps when the waffle is ready...I would love to know about it. I tried searching at Amazon but the number of waffle makers is mind boggling. Oh, I think we want a regular one and not a Belgian one. (Belgian don't take regular batter, right?)
TIA!

I bought dh this (http://www.amazon.com/Cuisinart-WAF-6-Traditional-Style-6-Slice-Stainless/dp/B0006L9V0S/ref=sr_1_14?ie=UTF8&qid=1328754031&sr=8-14) waffle maker for Christmas... I don't know if it chirps or not, because I've never been here when he was actually using it. One of the things he really likes about it is that it makes 6 waffles at a time so the kids can't eat them faster than he can make them! I also bought him this cookbook (http://www.amazon.com/Crepes-Waffles-Pancakes-Delicious-Desserts/dp/1561485209/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1328754255&sr=8-4). I don't know if the recipe he's been using came with the waffle maker or the cookbook, but it makes something like 10 DOZEN waffles per batch, so he makes a big batch and freezes the leftovers, so the kids can pop them in the toaster for breakfast! It was hard to find a NON-belgian waffle maker... and my kids don't like belgian waffles.

Dawn, I have that exact waffle maker except mine makes 4 waffles instead of 6, but I can't find it, so maybe they aren't making the smaller one any more  Itdidcome with arecipebook that hdsoe yummy recipes  my only complaint is that sometimes it warns up quickly, and sometimes it doesn't. It's odd. I guess there's a fine trigger point on the dial. Once it warms up, though (and I've learned to turn it on as soon as I start mixing), it cooks away. Oh, I also double every recipe and freeze leftovers :D

I forget the brand name of mine, but you can make waffles or sandwiches with it, and most importantly, the plates come out and are dishwasher safe. :thumb:

I have the Cuisinart 4 {big} waffle waffle maker. There is a light and an audible sound when the waffles are ready. They are Belgian waffles, but we just use regular waffle mix. It's about $59, but I got ours on sale at Penney's for about $40.
You can use regular batter in a Belgian waffle maker. I do it all the time. But I don't want to. :(
I want my little Sunbeam waffle maker back. It made the old-fashioned circle waffles and we used it for about 20 years before it died. I was kind of excited to be able to buy a new one until I realized that I couldn't get that kind anymore. They're all Belgian! :( If anyone knows of a non-Belgian, old-style waffle maker, please tell! I'd get rid of mine in a heartbeat to have that again.

I don't even know the difference between a regular and Belgian waffle.
Ours is Belgian, so I guess I don't know what we're missing out on. :)

Thank you! The audible tone is a must. If I don't have it, we'll burn them and that is just the way my cooking is these days. :perplex:

Walmart.com has several. I just couldn't find any that had an audible signal to let me know when the waffles are ready. Here is one. (http://www.walmart.com/ip/Black-Decker-3-in-1-Waffle-Maker-Indoor-Grill-Griddle-G48TD/2684038)
Another. (http://www.amazon.com/Cuisinart-WMR-CA-Round-Classic-Waffle/dp/B00006JKZN/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1328793173&sr=8-2)

It looks like it (http://www.cuisinartwebstore.com/detail/CUI+WAF-6)does have an audible tone. But I think it is bigger than I need as we don't make them often. However, after you suggested Cuisanart, I did find one (http://www.cuisinartwebstore.com/detail/CUI+WAF-R) on the Cuisanart site that looks like a good fit, if I can find it for a good price. Off to search more.

THANK YOU!   This makes me very happy!
I thought I'd never find one like the one I had. This one is pretty similar. Plus, it's definitely the right price. :thumb:
Alicia, a Belgian waffle is very thick, smaller, and the holes are fewer and much deeper. It's just a matter of personal taste. I've always preferred the classic, thinner waffle with more holes. And now it looks like I can make them again!

This is the one I have and Amazon tells me I bought it 9 years ago (ha!). Just used it last night. If it had the audible tone, it would be the perfect waffle maker. Now I wonder if there's a way for my husband to rig that up for me, LOL. It does have a little *click* sound when the light turns green but it has to be quiet enough in the kitchen to hear it.
I hope you can find one that has exactly what you need - and keep us posted when you do. :)

Susan, this is probably it BUT I would like for it to be a bit cheaper. We only make waffles about once every month or two. It is just a step up from the one you have.
Cuisanart Round Waffle Maker (http://www.cuisinartwebstore.com/detail/CUI+WAF-R)
I will be checking a few of the local stores like Tuesday Morning and Big Lots to see what they have. :)
SIGH! Well, it isn't on the Cuisinart site and I don't think they make it anymore. :eyes: :spin:
