Hi ladies,
We have been doing FIAR for over a year now and have quite a few story disks on our maps now. My question is for those of you rowing year after year...do you leave up each story the rest of the year? Do you take them down for the "new" school year?
I'd like to still point out the "major" ones that the girls still remember - like the Eiffel tower for Madeline, etc. But, I thought maybe it might help to take them down and review them?
I'm not really sure which direction to take...so I thought I'd ask you wonderful ladies for ideas!
thanks!

We've left ours up! I can't fathom the idea of taking them down! So, we have two years' worth of discs all around the world. Some are on the inset parts of the maps. We also row fewer books probably then most because we do other units and 3Rs a lot and take breaks. Still, they are probably 20 plus up there!

We did one year on a wall map and this year on a globe. Next year, hmmm....

You also could use a little file box to hold the story disks and only have the main one you're using for the week up. Then when you've done three or four stories, take them out and say, "Hey! Can we remember where all these go." Keep reviewing...when there are six, and ten and on till they can put them all up.
Also in the back of the manuals on the "Review Week" section there are ideas to use the disks to do more than just geography review!
However you decide to use them, enjoy the wonder of review that is fun!

When the map gets overcrowded, I take them down. We pull out the baggie now and then and see who can remember where which disks go. It gets harder over the years! My first rowers are now 15, 12, and 10. My current rower was just a toddler when we did the books for the first time, so the disks have had plenty of time to come down and be in the baggie for a couple years before being used again with Bradley.

We only have one story disk up at a time. That was the way I thought I was supposed to do it. We also have a small map about a quarter the size of a wall map (small home) so our map would get crowded quickly! :) Because our map is smaller I also reduced the size of the story disks.

I leave ours up until an area (like Europe) gets too crowded. Of course my 2yo has a facination with taking them off and trying to eat them, so now I'm only able to leave up the ones that are out of his reach!

We have every story disk still up. The world map is very crowded.
We can't even see the countries anymore...The US map is okay, but I was saving alot of the state studies for another year...
We definitely need to get a system like Jane mentioned... Maybe I should just tape put them on the lapbook covers....
I just have to remember to do the review.

Thank you Jane! This is a wonderful idea and it's going to be our geography next year.
