I saw this blurb (http://www.bing.com/videos/watch/video/peanut-butter-prices-to-rise-sharply/6lbdwyx?from=) on the nightly news last night. Peanut butter prices will rise 30-40% next month.

I have been hearing this all over the web for the last week or so. Time to stock up!

I've been stocking up this week. I'm not a shelf-clearer, but I've been buying a few jars every time I go. With my eldest out of the house, we don't go through it near as fast as we used to, so I may already have a year's supply. I'm going to buy a few more peanut butter crackers, though. That's a pretty handy snack for the two of us who like them.

I had heard this a few months ago, so I've been getting 2 packs when we go to Sam's--my ds LOVES PBJs!

My dc are laughing at me that I'm stocking up as I stocked up for the pumpkin shortage which never happened. I don't care though because I like pumpkin and peanut butter. ;)

Thought of this as we went through Costco today ~ only bought one double pack. Might buy another and use it sparingly!

Shannon...that is so weird. I have been to ours at least 4 times in the past 3 weeks and EVERY time they have been out of their Kirkland Organic PB. That stuff is AWESOME!

No pumpkin shortage in AZ, huh? Lucky you! It's happened here the last two years! I was thrilled to see some at my grocery store the last two times I went!

I heard about PB prices, too. Very sad!

Agreed! DH and dd like regular PB, but the rest of us prefer the natural varieties:yum: over the pasty stuff.:p There's another Costco not too far from me, so I'll check there.

Went grocery shopping today, and all the big jars of my favorite brand were gone, along with several other varieties.

Usually when I see posts about shortages on here it doesn't affect me in Niger. Pumpkin? We don't have cans of it anyway, and the huge boats of pumpkins still come down the river so we can still buy them. But the peanut prices here went up last month. When my house worker bought them to make my peanut butter it cost a lot more! It's a staple product for people here, who are already incredibly poor. It's one of the only proteins most people can afford, and they use it in their sauces for meals. I hope it doesn't affect things here too much, because there are already starving people all around us.

This is the kind we buy too! Man, apparently I am "out of the loop" because this news clip was the first I heard of it. We are going to Costco tomorrow, I am hoping they have some!

That's funny...My son won't touch the Costco stuff he has to have the Old Fashioned Skippy, DH and I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the Costco PB--as does my mom and dad. They only live about 5 minutes away and I have been known to go swipe a jar from them. My DH eats it every morning on a banana!

Let us know if you find some!

My ds and I were wondering about the future of Plumpynut. I hate to think its use may be reduced by cost.

I looked at 2 more Costco's on my path today. No organic peanut butter.

Say it ain't so! Did you ask when it was coming in or if it had been discontinued?

I went across town to help my aunt with some things, and worked my route past two more Costco's.:) No organic peanut butter at either. I didn't ask, but I suspect they may have discontinued it when the price of peanuts went up beyond their target price. I'll ask next time I visit a Costco with more time.

That is one price increase I don't have to worry about - life threatening peanut allergy over here. No pb in the house.

Trader Joe's has their 16oz jar of regular PB for $1.79. There was a full stock from what I could see, and peanuts were plentiful too....as of today.

Just checked my fb...Costco commented back and said it would be a long time before it's back due to the poor crop, they can't meet their demand...
