For those of you near enough to Los Angeles you might want to visit San Pedro. We went today and saw Angel's Gate lighthouse, LA's only functioning lighthouse. Here's a site for info http://www.lighthousefriends.com/light.asp?ID=99.
Near by there is the Thomas Vincent Bridge. It is a huge suspension bridge that crosses the port. There isn't a way to cross it on foot, but the drive across is amazing. You can see much of the harbor. Here is a site with info http://www.portoflosangeles.org/community_VTB.htm.
While you're in the area stop by Angel's Gate Recreational center. They have a huge bell give by Korea to the people of Los Angeles. The bell is amazing and so are the views. It's on a bluff looking over the coastline. Here's another website www.sanpedro.com/panoramas/korean_bell.htm.
We had a great time today.
