View Full Version : Yet another computer problem question

As I was attempting to email my mom some pictures from Christmas I got a message saying that my startup disk is full and I need to quit all applications and delete files from my start up disk or run the risk of permanently damaging the computer.

I shut everything down and googled the warning I got. I went through the steps of emptying trash cans, which freed up some space but not enough. I got to the step about "if this suddenly happens", which is what happened w/ me. I followed the prompts, got into my logs and I see where the problem is but I don't know what to do about it. :perplex: Most of what the log says doesn't mean anything to me but I do understand that it's happening in i-movie and i-photo. I did understand those two words amongst the foreign language on my screen.

My daughter had been messing around w/ i-movie and that, according to the logs, is where the hiccup seems to have occurred, consuming all of our memory. I have 61 gb left on a 499.7 gb disc, that was after emptying trash cans. Before trash removal I was maxed out at 499 gb.

So what do I do now? Delete everything from i-movies? Shouldn't she be able to use i-movies w/o it taking up all the space? :perplex:

Thanks for any ideas or help you can give. I so wish I understood technology better than I do. :spin:

Ok, talked to Shawn...

Make sure that the imovie trash can, it's separate then the main one, is empty. Also if you are using a lot of hd quality camera into imovie it can take up a ton of room. If you want to use it so heavily you will need to buy external usb drives (the biggest and cheapest ones you can get, mac compatible) to hold it all. He thinks that if your dd has like 10 hours of hd video on there it could be taking all the room (this is a guess to the hours of video...he hasn't looked at the exact number of hours that are held in each gb). Video editing does takes a lot of space. :) But he thinks if you just go check that trash can you might be able to lighten the load. Also 61gb is a lot of room for normal stuff.

Hopes this helps! Let me know if he can answer more questions for you!
