I am looking at CH3 LA lessons. The lessons on tension-essential for a plot and a dog's life creative writing. Have any of you done either of these and how did it go?

:)

Is the dog's life one where they tell part of the story from the dog's point of view? If so, then yes, we did it. It was a good lesson! I selected it for my dd to do this year, too. Even my non-creative-writing ds liked that assignment.

I don't remember the tension one. Do you have more details? Because I'm too lazy to walk to my dining room to go look. :D

Yes, we did the creative writing lesson this year. It was a fun way for Caleb to recount the events of the story, but from the dog's perspective. It was much shorter than the actual chapter, though. Maybe two good paragraphs? I think. :thumb: He, too, is a hesitant writer, but he did enjoy that one.

Yes, it is the one where you rewrite ch 3 written from a dog's perspective. It looked fun.

The tension lesson had to do with plot tension and how to create tension in your own stories.

Thanks for your response!

Thanks! I was not sure either of my kiddos could rewrite the whole chapter. I think we will give it a try.

A story from the dog's perspective was a fun lesson! We did ours orally, though, with each child contributing part of the story line. I have two non-writers so telling the story around the lunch table proved to be a fun way to share a story together.

We loved the SPT studies! They revived our homeschool! We're about to begin Homer in a few weeks and I can't wait!

That is a good idea about doing the story orally. We are going to do SPT followed by Skylark (I just thought I would do them together) and then we will do Homer. It is such a funny story.

Thanks Melinda!

When do you plan to start SPT? That is first up for us this year..... ;) (followed by Skylark).

I am aiming for August 9th. I am trying to decide if I want to do a brief study of all of the New England states first and use that as a lead in to SPT. In the manual, it says Maine and the eastern United States so I thought this might be a good time to add extra state studies.
