I'm so excited to be starting Beyond with my daughter this year. I've been doing some planning, and I can't quite decide how I want to do the Writing and Vocab parts.

Writing is a big struggle for my daughter, so I think I'm going to ease her into that. Discuss it, then have her write a few sentences about what we've discussed. I'll work up to having her write more as the year goes on.

I'm not sure what I want to do with the vocabulary words though. Do you just review them? Make some kind of worksheets? Have your child write out the definitions? Keep a vocab notebook?

How do you use them? Thanks! :D

We do a page of vocab words for that unit in our Beyond binder. They define them and sometimes write a sentence using them.

BYFIAR does not include grammar. You will have to incorporate your own grammar, if you choose.

 We review them orally.

This is how we did vocab the last two years: we kept a running list (words both from BY and other reading) of the words and definitions. Once we got to about 20, I gave the girls about a week to learn them well, both spelling and definitions, then I gave them a test.

So far we have been doing most of it orally. My daughter is 10, but just beginning Beyond, and not used to writing much yet. She has written a paragraph here & there though.
