Hi everyone,

I should probably introduce myself first - I'm Erin, mother of three and longtime user/lurker. I'm just starting BYFIAR and my daughter has developed an obsession with Louis Pasteur when she leapfrogged a bit (!) from the nutrition lesson in Boxcar Children.

The trouble I'm having is that she is nine and I have not been able to find a lapbook on him that is age-appropriate or even modifiable. Does anyone have any good links? Or suggestions of what she could put into it?

Thanks! We are loving BYFIAR - we strayed to Sonlight this past year after several years of FIAR and it's wonderful, as we start Vol 1 of BYFIAR, to see her enthusiasm come back again!

Here's a few items from HomeschoolShare:

From Pasture to Pasteur (http://www.homeschoolshare.com/docs54478/icecream/pasteurization_clipboards.pdf) - clipboard mini book to record info about process of pasteurization

Pasteur biography page (http://www.homeschoolshare.com/docs54478/farmer_boy_unit/Louis%20Pasteur%20Notebook.pdf) - this is actually a notebooking page, but you could fold it and paste it in such a way that it would work in a lapbook

Here's a unit study (http://www.currclick.com/product_info.php?manufacturers_id=216&products_id=25821&it=1)from CurrClick. It's currently ON SALE!! :D

Suggestions to put in one:

*timeline of his lifetime
*map/flag/info on France
*list of "contemporaries" - other scientists, artists, composers, rulers, etc. that lived during his lifetime
*French language - vocabulary, phrases, numbers, colors, etc.
*chart showing process of pasteurization or vaccination/immunization (how the "shots" work inside the body")
*definition of germ theory, micorbiology, and other Pasteur related science words
*list of other accomplishements besides pasteurization - rabies vaccine, father of bacteriology, anthrax and chicken cholera vaccines, discovery of "Pasteur Effect" in mocrobes, etc.
*copywork of famous quotes
*a book report on a biography of Pasteur
*a review of the 1935 film - The Story of Louis Pasteur (available for sale at Amazon in VHS and on imported All Region DVD - maybe at your library, too)
*you could expand to include info on microscopes, since without one Pasteur wouldn't have been able to work

That's all I can think of for now.........

HTH!

Blessings,
Suz
