We started using FIAR when my oldest was in Kindergarten. He is in 4th grade now. We have pretty much done all 3 volumes.

We will be starting our very first BYFIAR book with the Boxcar Children, hopefully this Wednesday. I'm really excited to start. I really think my children will enjoy it.

I pulled some planning sheets and mini book components off of HSS. So we will be exploring Edward Jenner, Germs, Nutrition during the 1st chapter. (I really don't feel like I have to exhaust everything in each chapter.) but I do like to hit on a few ideas.
If we do heavy science in the first chapter, I would probably hit on another subject more heavily for the 2nd and so on.

It will be a change from what I am used to because I pretty much stick to a Monday-history, Tuesday-Science, Wednesday Grammar, type schedule.

(Those are the days where after the Math and LA we focus on the given unit study subject for the day.

So does anyone that has been using it for a while have any tips.

Welcome to Beyond! I think the Boxcar Children is a excellent choice because it's a fun study!

I don't really have advice since we're constantly perfecting how we do BY. So I guess that's my advice: stay flexible and enjoy!

I've been amazed at how my dc have thrived since January. I shelved all the other stuff we were doing and put them all into Sarah, Plain and Tall. BY, as our core, really revived our homeschool!

Staying flexible is key!! We have completed The Boxcar Children, Betsy Ross, and have started Thomas Edison and LOVE it!!!

Michelle, do not forget about vol 4 and The Bravest of Us All digital unit. We are just now finishing up this year with our remaining two vol 4 titles and The Bravest Digital. Then it is full-time Beyond for us.

Melinda, I know what you mean about putting everything else to the side. That is what we do. It just makes more sense to us.
