I am just beginning Beyond with my 9 and 11 year old, but am wondering what you guys do after it? Is it a tough transition to go from something so fun or did you find something that is just as good for older kids?
Thanks!

There are lots of choices for a similar type study for your kids once they are finished BY.

Before you leave though, you'll have to do Above and Beyond! Hitty the First Hundred Years.

My plan is to do what we do best and just make it up ourselves:) and I'll use some other things here and there as we go.

After BY, we used Learning Adventures: A World of Adventure for 7th and part of 8th grades. It's similar in some ways to BY and we loved it.

I think Tapestry of Grace is a wonderful Christian unit study curriculum for highschool. I have used it for younger years but FIAR is much better for the younger kids, but I was really impressed with Tapestry and I will seriously consider it after Beyond.

We have only one more BY title - eek! :eek1: I'm starting to take a serious look at Ambleside Online for next year. My girls will be 7th and 9th grades.

We are doing Prairie Primer right now. Then we will come back to BYFIAR. Then we are going to try Switched on Schoolhouse as I already own it and it might be neat to try something different.

If SOS does not work for us, we will be looking for another Unit Study.

We are just sorta doing our own thing- units similar to what we've done in Beyond and FIAR with a bunch of Boy Scout merit badges thrown in. Dh has sort of taken over with the bulk of 11 yr old's studies. Ds is on a Jules Verne unit right now- reading lots of books by him- Journey to Center of the Earth, 20,000 leagues under the sea, Around the World in 80 days, and Mysterious Island. He wrote a report about Jules Verne, is working on Personal Management and First Aid merit badges, and is writing a story about being stranded on an island. Which will lead into his next books, Robinson Curusoe and Swiss Family Robinson.

Ambleside Online. :)

I haven't decided yet for highschool if I'll switch over to Tapestry or keep w/ AO's schedule. I'm also hoping to find a Gileskirk co op for when we start highschool as well. :thumb: That's only 2 years away, I guess I better start asking around. :spin:

I use Learning Adventures - A World of Adventure by Dorian Holt. Mrs. Holt has 2 more volumes: A New World of Adventure and Westward and Onward. This could potentially give you many years of study. I have decided, however, to discontinue using the LA series after the first volume. I want to start using curriculum that will help my older dc become more self-directed. I am hoping to help them be self-starters and more independent by the time they are in high school.

I am looking into using Truthquest History and God's Design for Life science for next year. I'm not sure if they will help me achieve the goals I have for my dc, but so far it's looking good.

For my first(and the plan for the second), we did BY through 7th grade(age 12) and then did Further Up and Further In for 8th grade.

My oldest is using a mix of stuff for high school. Some unit study-ish stuff for a few subjects and mix and match other things in. :) I'm thinking of using the same for my second. I'm happy so far with what my oldest is studying and my second is the type to do well with most anything, so might as well re-use what I have. :D
