HI, my name is Chrissy and I have 2 little ones: B who is turning 5 and L who is 2. B has autism (high-functioning Kanner Syndrome) and was in a full ABA program last year. This year he was promoted to an integrated class of 6 children, which has been a very difficult transition for him. We knew he wasn't ready and still needs 1:1 support, but the school didn't leave us much choice.
He hasn't really plugged-in this year, but we were going to stick it out and begin FIAR next school year... but then we were dealt with a crushing blow when ds came home on Monday and reported to us that the teacher aide has physically abused him; in an attempt to get him to stop stimming, she grabbed him by the throat. Whether it was intentional or not, it still happened and we believe B because he has been 100% consistent with his version of the events. We immediately pulled him out of the school and canceled his special ed services and have decided to begin BFIAR for the remainder of the school year. We're going to be sort of "winging" BFIAR for the time being, until we get the materials in order; we're all set with our FIAR stuff for next year so I'm going to follow along those lines.
Looking forward to getting to know you all!
