Hi there,
We are enjoying our study of Helen Keller and decided to do a hands on project because we had a little first grade friend hanging out with us this week.
Using the site in the archives we found what their names would like in braille:
http://afb.org/braillebug/thenamegame.asp
We enlarged it, rolled out some sculpie clay and made an imprint of the pattern on the clay and then made tiny balls to put along the pattern so that it was raised - and baked them. It was a fun project.
A Scholastic Biography go along book we are reading that I didn't see listed in the archives is Helen Keller's Teacher by the same author, Margaret Davidson.
