In the past month or so, it's like Gabe has come out of his shell. He's smiling so much, and giggling- really giggling hard when we play a peek a boo game with him, or tickle him.

His eye contact is so much better, and he's actually coming up to us and hugging our legs,as though to indicate he wants to be picked up. Before he seemed to be in his own world, and not ever show he wanted to be held, picked up or interact with anyone whatsoever.

It's like he's "waking up" and realizing there are other people in the world, and actually showing affection, hugging and kissing us (in his own, slobbery way).

His therapists have been indicating "autism spectrum" due to his lack of eye contact, and seeming like he ignores people, but now I'm wondering if that's no longer the case?
He was a preemie so, besides the down syndrome he's pretty delayed. So, although he's 2, he seems more like an 8 -12 month old in play and behavior. I was wondering if he was ever going to get beyond that "baby" stage. But lately I've felt really encouraged that he is going to again exceed our expectations.

COOL!!!! It is just so exciting to hear about him moving along. Stages last sooooo much longer. I was just reading on the Einstein site about adding that extra label of autism...interesting article.

I try really hard not to think about how delayed Ronnie is and just focus on her as being just where she should be. I remember one of her first cardiologists a very young new doctor telling me that all kids have their own time tables - instruction manuals. Kids with T21 have ones that are even that much more different than the rest. That has always been a nice reminder to me.

I love hearing updates I am glad to hear he is making those big important changes.
