View Full Version : How much?

I have been feeling pretty confused at how much I should be doing with Ronnie lately. I took a very laid back approach with DS1. I don't feel like that will be right for Ronnie. She would be in K this year if she went to school. Really she is all over the place in her skills and interests.

Part of me wants to just let her keep playing and take it easy. But, the other part of me thinks she is going to need more pushing. That she needs a regular schedule and routine of what activities she will be doing each day. I have found she has much better days when we follow a routine, even a loose one.

Then I get all caught up in researching "just the right thing" to use for her. That never ending quest. When I come right down to it if I just did B4FIAR or FIAR books she can handle we would be doing great. I keep saying I just need to keep things simple. I don't run a home preschool and we do have a toddler in the house too.

I guess I am just venting a bit. But, I am also wondering how you know how much to do? When do you push a bit and raise your expectations?

Thanks.

How about organized but simple? Just a simple time with subject XYZ and that is it.

I tend to agree, children with special needs do well with a schedule and so do children without special needs. ;)

I'm not the right person to talk about schedules, though.

What about establishing some goals that you would like to work on? That will help you keep focused and following a routine. You will also be able to note those small steps of progress if you have a few goals in mind.

I know my ds works much better with routine as well, especially in those areas we have chosen to target this year.
