I had my ds tested this summer and his scores indicated he has a math ld(no surprise there). Right now we are trying to memorize mult. tables and I feel like they just blow in one ear and out the other. I just ordered Math and More and we have started it, but so far it is no miracle!
I just need to know where to start on how to deal with this. Any sites or books you suggest? We go back next week to a Dev. Ped clinic to talk with the doc about the rest of his test results. I'm hoping for some guidance and help there.
TIA for help at all!

Does your ds have trouble memorizing other things? Does he have difficulty learning via writing or hearing or seeing? Or is it just a math issue. Is it that he does not get math at all?

My oldest ds has dyslexia and he has trouble memorizing via writing and reading. So doing multiplication tables over and over on a worksheet just does not help him at all. He got WORSE instead of better learning them that way.

He finally learned them using Times Tales and skip counting songs, and using manipulatives. He has moved on to long division now that he has them down. It still took one whole summer of building math problems, and singing and telling silly stories, but he has them now.

I am sure there are others who can help you more, but maybe look at Times Tales and see if you think it would help.

I know Steve Demme has a son with DS. Here is the section on MUS's website for sn's http://www.mathusee.com/specialed.html

My daughter has a math disability. For her memorizing and worksheets are NOT a good thing but every child is different. I looked at Math U See and Right Start. I went with Right Start and we are wading through that. She needs hands on stuff, games with little to NO worksheets. She also needs to understand not just memorize. Like I said, every child, LD or not is different. You got me on a bad math day.....there were tears today. So what do I know. You aren't alone, I guess I can give you that.

We just switched to Math Made Meaningful and for the first time EVER, Anna said, "Hey, I'm good at this." We're just starting multiplication. Her neuropsychologist recommended a computer program called NUMBER RACE which we were able to download for free. I haven't seen that it has made a huge difference, but Anna thinks it's fun.
