Have you watched any of the PBS House serries? I especailly liked the 1940's House. Also the Christy serries is good. Another good PBS/British serries is Rumpold of the Baley (sp?). I loved Foyle's War too!

We currently have the first episode of Foyle's War (via Netflix). I'm liking it already!! Tim and Steven have watched it, too. I'm ready to send it back for the next one! ;)

Sorry I can't help with your quest! ;)

Our family have enjoyed Sharpe & Hornblower - just watching Roots at the moment.
There is just rubbish on tv so we are enjoying getting out the dvds & watch an episode together when we can.

I never really got into these. It was too much manure for me...we eat while we watch, so it just didn't work out.

We loved the Christy series, but they left us hanging! I had to go get the book to find out who she married.

I'd forgotten about the house series. Those sound really good. I especially am interested in the pioneer one and the 1940's one you suggest. Thanks! :)

I am looking into the Rumpole series. It sounds interesting.

I appreciate your help!

They are addictive! And the last one is in my house now. :hcry: I love Michael Kitchen's character and Sam...why don't they make more????

Thanks, Leanne! I think the Hornblower series looks especially good.

If you haven't watched the Railway Children, I think you should try it. It isn't a series, just a movie, but it was really good. Michael Kitchens is a minor character in it too. I only got it on a fluke, because my kids like the book so well. The movie was so touching.:hcry:

Jane and I have watched all of those. Right now we're watching the Doctor Findlay series- another late '40's early '50's series set in Scotland after the war. It's kind of a physician's version of All Creatures Great & Small (which is NEXT on our list to watch for about the 3rd time through!)

The episodes of Findlay are sometimes very sad but deal with life's realities from suicide to mental illness to broken romances and more. They also often leave the viewer without any absolute answers as to "what finally happened" at the end of certain episodes- just kind of leave you dangling.

All of that makes them sound bad, but we're enjoying them- beautiful production values, costumes, period, characters and plots. VERY nicely done and we're just a few episodes from the end of the 4th and final season.

Blessings,

Steve

Hamish MacBeth I've enjoyed (though my kids not so much)
The Dutchess of Duke Street is good (but not suitable for kids imo)

I haven't watched much, but my 8yo daughter enjoyed Mulberry recently. If you watch it and it is wildly inappropriate, just know that I'm pretty much drowning in a sea of life and not up to my normal standards of being able to "patrol", so take it with a grain of salt.

The Irish R.M. I liked a lot. It is slower paced and older (80's?) and looks a lot like All Creatures, but has more "story". I've not been able to get into All Creatures.

Fawlty Towers is British comedy. I liked and didn't like it. If you enjoy British comedy, then you'd probably like it.

Another vote for Sharpe, here! Although there is some strong language in it you may not want your dc to hear......Likewise Hornblower!

My Family is a hilarious sit-com. I think it may even still be running. And the Vicar of Dibley keeps me in stitches!

Prime Suspect is gritty, but good. So is the detective show Rebus (though I couldn't get into it after John Hannah left. To me, he WAS John Rebus, KWIM?) I really liked the earlier years of MI-5/Spooks, but I stopped watching after nearly the entire original cast left the show, between Sereis 2 and 3, I think it was. I loved Rosemary and Thyme, and the currently running (on PBS anyway) Doc Martin has some really good bits, too.

I may think of more. Several of my favorites were already mentioned - Hamish MacBeth, BallyKiss, Foyle's War, and All Creatures.....

Blessings,
Suz

Oooh, Thanks! I am jotting them all down to check out. They all sound interesting!

I browsed around Netflix the other day and read about the Inspector Lindley Mysteries and the Brother Cadfael series. Does anyone have an opinion on those?

Again, TIA! You have all been such a help already. :)

I watched the Inspector Linely serries. It was pretty good, but a little bit much for kids I'd say.
