Speaking of IEP's, I'm filling out our Notice of Intent to homeschool and there's a box to check if the student has an IEP on file. Surely I don't have to create an IEP for Clayton? My whole curriculum IS his IEP! I'm thinking this is for kids previously enrolled in public school?

Does he get services/therapy through the public schools system?

Each state is diffferent.

All of his therapies are through a private company, so no ps services. I'll just need to check with the district office here about that specific detail on the form . . .

My first guess is no. He does not have an IEP on file because you receive no services from them. Just because he has special needs doesn't mean he needs an IEP.

You write IEPs when a child gets services...they only serve as way to document progress which is tied into state/federal funding. (everything is tied to money) If you pay handle your own services, I can't see why you need to get involved with an IEP.

There could be some reason you have to do it...like if there is madatory testing in your state, Clayton will have trouble with that.

You can call HSLDA. Someone here can point you to the right place to answer that question.

Arkansas requires testing in 3rd and 9th grade for homeschoolers--but they are supposed to make accomodations for the disabled. We'll see!
