My dd, who will be starting K in the fall, has never formally done handwriting. She has learned to form most of the capital letters, though not always correctly, and a few of the lowercase letters. I'd like to do something more formal this year to teach her the rest of the letters and so that she knows how to correctly form all of them. Any suggestions?
Thanks!

We use CopyScribe's copywork books. They start with manuscript, but also include the same copywork in Italic and Cursive, so you can use them a long while.

StartWrite software (http://www.startwrite.com/) is what I used with my third child and I used it for the rest after K.
My dd I used A Reason for Handwriting, but I wasn't all that impressed.

The ETC primers do letters (and now for the life of me I am blanking out on whether it's capitals or lowercase).
A Reason for Handwriting also looks good. We didn't start it till the first grade level, but the K level looked fun.

I love Handwriting Without Tears. I purchased the workbook and the slate (I also purchased the chalk and sponges, but I don't feel these items are necessary). We did the PreK book last year and are starting on the K book now.

It seems like HWT is the consensus. What extras did you all get? I think that the workbook and the slate would probably be fine for my dd, but ds will probably be ready for the pre-k book soon. He recognizes many uppercase letters but does not try to write them yet. Should I get anything else? Also keep in mind that I have very hands-on kids and the younger two (who will be 3 1/2 and 1 1/2 in the fall) will probably want to tag along with dd.

I would buy a few slates, so they can all use them at the same time. I would also consider the wooden letter pieces...your little ones would probably like those. If you don't want to spend so much money, there is a pattern so you can make your own.
I would also consider getting one of the CDs if your kiddos enjoy music. I may actually get one for my dd when she is a bit older.

i have the teacher manual, student workbook, flashcards, and slate. i bought them all second-hand at our homeschool store. another mom gave me a great idea to make the wooden pieces from cardstock (there is a template in the teacher's manual). they turned out great though & saved me money.:D

We used HWOT as well. I bought 2 slates (because I knew the younger would want to tag along if it involved chalk). I bought the teacher's manuals for Pre-K and K, along with the slates. That was it. I did make the wooden pieces out of craft foam, never used them with DD, but DS loves them now.

Thanks everyone! I think I'll buy the slates and the wooden letter pieces. I'll have a baby next winter and a toddler hanging out with us and I don't think homemade ones would survive.
