Hi,

Would a 2 year old enjoy BFIAR, or should I wait a bit?

I did FIAR with my daughter for a few years (we have since moved on to other things). I started her at age 4 with FIAR. I loved our days of rowing together :) I am not familiar with BFIAR since we did not use it so I am just unsure about when is a good age to start it. My son asks to "do school" so I am thinking of including him a little when we start up our new year. He will be 2.75 yr old by then, so he will almost be a 3 year old. Anyway just looking for opinions. Thanks :)

Amy

I think B4 would be perfect! My 2 yr old loves his b4 titles. We do keep it very relaxed at 2- and don't "row" the books, but rather just read and do a few activities every couple of days.

Sure! You can pick and choose what types of activites would intrest your child. Jane has also put together plenty of activites that are not tied to the books that any 2 year old would love to do!

Some of my fondest memories was reading my dd Play with Me and doing a lot of conversational activites while she was in a stroller taking a walk. I think she was a day or two past 2!

We started rowing when DS was 2. He has speech delays and didn't participate too much, but I think it was good for him. Now that he's 3.5 he's participating much more and we still have plenty of BFIAR activities to enjoy!

But after all, that's what we love about homeschooling--we can tailor it to each child.

My two sons began B4 at age 2 (actually I think my younger one was a tad younger; he wanted to do things with his brother). I'll have to play it by ear with my daughter--since she's adopted from another country, she may not be ready. I'm not sure they read much to her (at least not one-on-one). And of course, she's still learning our language. My goal this summer is to read, read, read to her and play, play, play with her. B4 in the "formal" sense (I put that in quotes because that's not really how I would describe B4) may have to wait awhile.

Starting at 2 was fine with my boys, though--we actually did two rounds of B4--the second time around they were able to do more of the activities, so it was a lot of fun.

HTH!

It definitely depends on the kiddo.
Matthew wasn't ready to sit and read for more than a couple of minutes until he turned 3 years old.

My oldest, Mikey, would sit and listen to books from birth.

Sarah started right at about 2 years old.
