are out of print!!!! We have all of the books except: My Blue Boat, The ABC Bunny, The Quiet Way Home, The Red Carpet and of course Jenny's Surprise summer. I just can't justify $35 and up for a used copy

We found The ABC Bunny on Amazon just today for about $10 brand new. They have a bunch of other BFIAR books there too both gently used and new.

Is ABC Bunny out of print? Every now and then it still shows up in a Scholastic flyer, I thought. I found it used here at some bookstore, for cheap. I think we ordered My Blue Boat on ebay, found Red Carpet and Jenny, and still haven't seen Quiet Way Home.
I wouldn't want to pay $35 for many books, but for one, maybe, since I get so many for a quarter. I figure it balances?

I think it's quite frustrating as well. I lucked out and got The Red Carpet as a RAK. I bought The ABC Bunny brand new (is it OOP?). Another FIARower let me borrow Jenny's Surprise Summer when we were visiting Florida for a special vacation. I think I was able to check out My Blue Boat and Yellow Ball from our library. I still haven't seen The Quiet Way Home. So there you have it. We have most but those super HTF ones. I wish I could get them all!

Ah, no one else has the elusive Quiet Way Home either.
I did BFIAR with my daughter, she is 5.5 now and just pulled it all out to do it with my son soon (he's 2.5).
Quiet Way Home is the only book we don't have. Occasionally I convince myself I should just buy it no matter what price just to have it. Then reality sets in.

The Red Carpet was just out (re-released) in paperback a few years ago. I would think there would be used copies around in second hand bookstores, thrift shops, garage sales, etc. Also, for those who are looking, remember that there may be more than one ISBN number to search for, since there are different publishings, hardback--paper, etc.

I looked at Amazon to see if they had any of them, and they did. Not too pricey.
I hope the link below works, it is to Jenny's Surprise Summer. Some other titles came up at the bottom of the page.

I paid WAY too much for Jenny, but that was before I knew about Amazon.

That is why I love scouring thrift stores and used book stores! It is my only thing I "collect" and it becomes a hobby for me. My dh just :eyes: at me but that is ok!
I found Jenny at a thrift store for a buck! Keep your eye out as you never know where you might find a good one!

It is frustrating!!
I have found a few OOP's at thrift stores as well- I was  Cheering when I found My Blue Boat a few months back.
And our very favorite b4 title is one of the hard to find ones- The Quiet Way Home.
The only before titles we're missing are My Blue Boat and The Quiet Way Home. I found Jenny's Surprise Summer and The Red Carpet as part of a lot of books on a homeschool curriculum swap board. I already had some of the books in the lot but I bought the lot for $25 figuring the two books I really wanted out of the lot were worth at least that. And I was able to gift the duplicates to other moms wanting to try out B4FIAR. Homeschool Library Builder was where I got ABC Bunny, I don't remember exactly how much it was but I think it was less than $10. The Yellow Ball I found at a library sale for $1 or 2 I think. Actually, I'm only missing 6 books out of all the FIAR books, from B4 through Beyond. I've paid more for some titles because I really wanted them and I couldn't get them even through ILL (Giraffe and Hanna come to mind) But I justify the cost by thinking about the long term value of the book to me, I plan to pass these books on to my grandchildren so even $50 - $60 for single book doesn't seem like that much when I think of it that way. I spend at least that much on a single year of math curriculum that won't be reusable unless I shell out another $20 for the worktext. I set aside so much of our homeschool budget for book purchases and when I find what I think is a reasonable price for an out-of-print, I jump on it. ;) I don't find it frustrating really, more like a hobby. ;)

Not sure exactly what made me try, but I gave one last attempt to find Jenny's Suprise Summer for less than the Big Scary Prices.... and I found it for under $10! My advice is to pop on to the usual secondhand online stores - ebay, half.com, amazon's marketplace, etc - every so often. You might find a great deal.
Another GREAT place to search online is:
AddAll
http://used.addall.com/
They have over 20,000 dealers listing their books through this service.
There's an auction for Jenny's Surprise Summer on eBay right now. There's one bid @ .99. I know it may go higher, but it's worth just keeping an eye on some of these titles. You never know...
There's a My Blue Boat for $20.30 and another for $20.91 on AddAll right now, too.
