Hi,

I just wanted you to know that I found three new books that are available to buy or borrow that go perfectly with the new FIAR Winter Study! Most of the animals you learn about in the studies are in these stories with beautiful art and gentle winter themes.

Dear Rebecca, Winter is Here by Jean Craighead George (This story is written in a letter form--a grandmother to her granddaughter--describing, in metaphorical language, how the seasons are changing, and all the ways it affects weather and animals.)

Also, don't miss Grandmother Winter by Phyllis Root. (This is also a metaphorical look at winter describing many of the same things--the added attraction to this story are the wonderful scratchboard illustrations...that are similar, yet not quite the same, as the illustrations in Snowflake Bently. It would make a great comparison art study.

Last of all, a book called Wild Horse Winter by Tetsuya Honda, a true story (and spectacular go-along to those of you doing Wild Horses of Sweetbriar) that takes place in Japan. But, in the context of your Winter Study...an almost unbelievable exciting look at how some animals, in this case horses, survive an extra harsh winter blizzard. The art is simply breath-taking and has some similarities to Wild Horses of Sweetbriar, especially in the chosen palette, and yet there would be differences to discuss, as well. Beautiful!

Be sure to add these titles to your printed list of books from your FIAR Winter Study and enjoy how they tie so many things together that you have been discovering!

Blessings,
Jane Claire

*I'm posting this on all the boards because the Winter Study is for all ages...even older students, so it fits the range from Before FIAR, to the Family Room.
