View Full Version : Flavor Injectors for the bird!
I was at walmart today and some foreigners  (they were from the deep south by the sounds of 'em) were next to me saying, "hey look hun, they have the injectors here!" and were getting all excited for me to move out of the way. I got to visiting with them and they say it makes a wunnerful turkey. I got the cajun butter flavor injection stuff and contraption.
By the looks of their grocery cart they knew how to lay out a good spread of food. (They are originally from Louisana and are here for a while working on the new coal plan)
It's called "Tony Chachere's Famous Creole Cuisine Injectables in Creole Style Butter Marinade"
Is this a good move?

Hey Oney ;) "the food police" is kinda skeptical  Read the ingredients....
If you can spell em all, and it doesn't have anything hydrogenated in it--then it sounds like a pretty good idea. If its got a bunch of unpronouncable stuff and/or partially hydrogenated fat in it--well I say Toss it.
Happy Thanksgiving Girl friend! :hi:
Gitel, you make me smile! Happy Thanksgiving to you too, Friend!

Oney, I had deep fried turkey once that was injected with a flavoring. Yes, I know, not the healthiest thing in the world:eek: , but oh, so scrumptious!:yum:

Are you frying your turkey??? (Fried turkey is my absolute fave. :yum: ) I haven't heard of injecting a turkey that you roast ...I suppose it would work the same way...Let us know how it turns out!
Btw, Tony Chachere's dry seasoning is a staple at our house...I suppose that would make the injectable seasoning O.K. in my book. ;)

no, roasting. I know I've seen accomplished chefs inject other meats to roast so I just thought it was for roasting...I didn't even consider that it might be just for deep fried turkey.
Since Kendall has given me her blessing ;) I went ahead and injected the bird. It sure smelled like a tasty marinade. :yum: I think it will be good roasted.
ANd, just to complicate matters more :roflol: I put the bird in an oven bag (sorry Gitel!!), injected it with a whole bottle of Tony's stuff, and THEN covered the whole thing in honey and topped it with bacon.
I was feeling adventurous. ;) I'll let you know how my GitCynKenAliLyn turkey turns out.

Oh my Oney  How will I ever enjoy tommorow? I'll be too busy worrying about you and your family  :roflol:

If it has TONY's on it, it has to be good.
I cannot imagine anything from Chachere's not being wonderful and tasty.
We went on a field trip to the Tony's factory and had to wear masks so that we wouldn't breathe in too much "fire" while walking around.
By the way, if you see their other mixes, marinades or seasonings, don't be afraid to give them a try.
C'est bon!
