I hope someone has done this before and has a good idea.....Katie is fascinated with factories and REALLY wans to go on a field trip to one.Not really sure why.... But of course I want to take her if I can.The problem is-most of the factories in our area have closed down. Anyone have an idea about a type of factory we could visit? I am wondering if there is something obvious that I just haven't thought of?

The problem we've had when trying to schedule field trips to factories is that their insurance company doesn't allow tours for safety reasons. We have a Malt-o-meal and a la-z-boy factory near us, but they won't allow anyone under 18 inside for a tour. Good luck!

Try looking online for virtual factory tours and also check to see if your library has any videos of factories. You might also contact some of the larger manufacturers to see if any of them produce a video of their own. (If they don't- I think they should. LOL!)

Maybe you can find a cookie factory or similar that has the customer center where they sell their goods. Usually these places have a large viewing windows to watch production. And they sell bags of broken cookies cheap!

I thought of you this morning when a Factory Tour program came on the Discovery Channel. It may be daily, around 8a.m. cst. Today they showed coke bottling.
