Is 10 too old for it? I am wondering what Jane would recommend. What grade does it's scope and sequence cover? I would love to use it for
age 10, grade 5, but not if it is too much of a stretch.
Thank you!

I would certainly use the units in Volume 4 with a 10 year old, between the longer units of Beyond Five in a Row. Use them alternating with one another.
The Volume 4 units were written in the style of Beyond units (of that difficulty), yet with a picture book as the center point rather than a chapter book. It was created to be a bridge between the two, if a teacher needed more Five in a Row before going on to Beyond Five in a Row. By the way, the stories we use in Volume 4 are a great springboard for lessons for a 10 year old--the picture book just takes less time to read.
Also, the Volume 4 units were meant to be done after a student has completed Five in a Row Volumes 1-3 (or at least one or two of them) as the concepts from the 1-3 are necessary to go on to Volume 4.
Hope this helps. :)

Hi Bethany,
I started a thread with this same question last week. Check it out:

I have decided that I am going to add in 2 of the "Beyond FIAR 1" books next year also to give her the experience of rowing a chapter book.
