Article on the Yangtze River

The Three Gorges Dam has been complete for about 18 mos. This article addresses the environmental impact of such a huge undertaking. The making of the dam is really cool to read about, but impounding that huge river comes with a large toll.

Thought it might be of interest to some of your students.

Thanks Heather. My dh wrote a paper in one of his classes about the negative effects of the dam. One of them is that the River Dolphin is probably extinct as well as all the people that had to be re-located. On a related note he went to tour a windmill factory yesterday and learned how energy from wind is clean and renewable...it's always there. Energy from dams has a large cost and negative effects, especially on wildlife.
