Hi, I am new here. Really new, I haven't even started FIAR yet! I can't wait, though. It sounds great. I have to wait till after the first of the year to buy the FIAR books. I have been trying to find all of the books I can from the book list. I had The Story About Ping, Mike Mulligan, and Owl Moon, already. I also just found When I Was Young In The Mountains and Roxaboxen at our Goodwill Bookstore for .30 and .50! Gotta love Goodwill!
Anyway, I just wanted to introduce myself and also ask what Math/Phonics/Handwriting curriculi you would recomend to go along with FIAR? Btw, dd is 4, she will be Kindergarten age next year, but I am going to buy most of her curriculum around February or so (tax time). So, I am trying to get ideas now. I hope to get at least the first FIAR book soon, so I can go ahead and start! I am so excited!! :D
Thanks for letting me ramble! Any advice would be appreciated!

Hi Katie, welcome to the FIAR family!
I've used Explode the Code for my last several children to begin phonics and handwriting, and have been pleased with that. They begin with the pre-explode books A, B, and C and we take it really slow.
Glad to have you "on Board!" :hi:

Hi Katie! :hi:
Welcome to FIAR!
Where are you in Ohio? (North, South, East or West?) There are a lot of us scattered around the state.
We use Rightstart Math and Reading Made Easy in addition to FIAR.

Hi Katie! Glad to see you here!
I am using Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons and MathUSee with my youngest.
I also highly recommend Before FIAR that you could start using now (or right after taxes), before her official *Kindergarten* year. :)

Welcome, Katie! :hi:
I am currently rowing with my youngest, a 1st grader. We supplement with Explode The Code and Horizons Math for Phonics and Math. For Handwriting, we used a D'nealian workbook in Kinder.
By the way, he learned to read using Teach Your Child To Read in 100 Easy Lessons and we just transitioned into ETC book 4 (I think!) after that.

Welcome
We have several of the books but we also use the library. They have been able to find all the ones I needed. I use Abeka and have used it since K.

Welcome Katie! I also recommend using the library for the books. Then buy as you find them cheap. Good job on your finds!
I use Reading Made Easy for phonics and Horizons Math. I have heard that Making Math Meaningful is an excellent program that goes well with the gentle approach that FIAR and RME use.
Also, I highly recommend the audio downloads in the digital store. The Where do I Begin one is especially good. It helps you get a "vision" for your homeschool.
Many blessings on your new journey!:)

:hi: Katie;
We have enjoyed participation in FIAR. Right now our oldest is on his way to independent reading - Language Arts Through Literature and Saxon Math (level 2) and our second son is using Reading Made Easy and Saxon Math (level 1), our daughter is just coming on to seat work with a nice set of work books. We are really focused on these and are coming back to FIAR in January 08. I am reading Emily's Big Imagination and we all looove it. Every home that is blessed, blessed, blessed with this opportunity is different but all conected through Jesus. I wish you well with your loved one. Hang in there and make contact when you have those grrrr days:lol:
