We have the cookbook so I decided that Gavin could help me with a "Warm as Wool" dinner and we invited my dad over. The morning of the dinner I was telling Gavin what we would have and he said "and lamb!" Yikes! There was no mention of eating the sheep in the story so I asked him if he really wanted to eat lamb and he said yes, soo, back to the store for lamb. Maybe it's a boy thing;) when I found out we were really eating animals I became a vegetarian for a week.
But we made lemon chess pie, a southern vegetable dish, corn bread (improvising a bit) from the FIAR cookbook and lamb of course! It was great, then Gavin narrated page by page the entire book to his grandpa. My dad was impressed, although did make a snippy comment when Gavin was showing him he could count and jumped around in the teens, saying this "homeschooling thing is really working for you" other than that all was great and those recipes are the best!

Sounds like great fun. We did our first dinner a month or so ago with Storm in the Night. Since it had a Macaroni and Cheese recipe we had my Mom come over and teach them her recipe (She calls it Heart Attack Heaven because of all the cheese, Heavy cream and butter). We had a great time and took pictures of the process, the neatest thing is when we took a picture of them pouring the hot macaroni from the colander into the bowl to mix with the other ingredients. The steam from the macaroni showed up in the photo, it was really neat.

We are doing Ping now and plan on having a wrap up dinner on Friday. My mom is coming again because she loves egg drop soup and most Chinese dishes and she doesn't get them often because dad doesn't like Chinese.

Isn't it great to be able to do all this fun stuff and make memories with our children and our family.

I am sorry your dad upset you, but he will come around, just hang in there. My in-laws had never been very supportive and last Christmas they gave my 14 yo DD a card telling her how proud they are of all she has accomplished and how much she has grown. So they are finally seeing the light. My children seem to be the only ones they don't complain about anymore.

Just wait for the moment when your son says..."I remember when we made the Warm as Wool dinner and....."

Just tonight I threw together some fried rice and had the girls put chopsticks on the tabel for dinner. They went on and on about our Ping dinner last winter :hcry: It was so fun to listen to!

Yes, it was great fun, and he loves to help. Anyone that doesn't have the cookbook, I really recommend trying to get it. The recipes are great, we made crepes yesterday morning, too. My dh loved the Lemon Chess pie.

How exciting!!! for Gavin!!!

I'm excited about our dinner at the end of the week. Night of the Moonjellies is a big hit around here. My kids are busy making menus, and planning their restaurant. I can't wait to try the lobster rolls. :yum:

While we are on the subject of dinners and since lobster was mentioned, does anyone know if the shell fish recipes work out okay with imitation meat. I am allergic to shell fish, I can't even eat rice that was fried with it, but I can eat imitation crab and lobster. My dc don't want to do a recipe if everyone in the family can't try it. Thanks in advance.
