I just wanted to say that I just think that BFIAR is an awesome resource, and in reading through it again today I got so much encouragement and great ideas. We are in a really transitional part of our life right now, have been for about 4 months since we moved from MI to our homestate of NC... but for about 2 years I've been collecting BFIAR titles and they are among my 3 year old's favorites. I have looked at so many different homeschooling resources, and I truly feel that BFIAR is the BEST thing out there for the 2-4 yo crowd.

Now that we are more settled in our new home, and I have a few brain cells again, I'm looking forward to drawing on BFIAR even more. My 3 yo will be 4 in November, and she is very eager to do "school" stuff, but is not (IMO) ready for a really structured homeschool experience. I am so glad to have BFIAR to draw on, and now my 1.5 yo is showing an interest and ability to listen to the same stories as her sister. I just need a bigger chair, our recliner is a bit small for both of them in my lap!

I'm still trying to decide if I want to continue in my old "haphazard" approach of if we read a book from BFIAR and dd wants to do something, reading and getting ideas/inspiration on the spot, or actually "rowing" a BFIAR book each week... I might try the latter now, but just keep it fun & easy still. I am trying to treasure these laid-back years because I know they will be over before I'm ready!

Hi, Elizabeth! My daughters are similar in age to your children and they love these books, too. Our recliner is awfully crowded, too! This method really is great and I totally love it, too! We have just started, but it's been working for us to "row" a book each week. It is easy; some of it is just playing together. But it's great to take a few minutes to have some focused fun together. Keep us posted on how it's going!

I think I will focus on a book a week... I decided to start with "The Runaway Bunny"- well, dd did! We're making the bunny cake in the archives, decorating it tonight.

Elizabeth, glad you had a fun time! How did the cake go?

I too enjoy that you can do as little or as much as your kids want to do.

The cake turned out really cute! And it was really fun to do, made a big impression on my dd. It was a lot of cake though, still have a lot of it in my fridge. I might have to throw out the rest of the bunny. :(
