Please, can anyone share their favorite recipes for apples? We just picked quite a few at the orchard. I'm hoping especially to make at least some things that can be frozen and enjoyed later.

Thank you so much!!!

I know this is not really what you are looking for, but this is the best apple dip I have ever eaten. I make it every year and gain about 5lbs!

Apple Dip

1 can sweetened condensed milk
1 cup butterscotch chips
1/4 tsp. salt

Mix all ingredients in a small sauce pan and melt on low stirring constantly until smooth. You will have to watch carefully because it has a tendency to burn on the bottom very quickly. Remove from heat and add 1 tsp. cinnamon and 2 tbls. apple cider vinegar. Makes about 1 pint. :yum:

If you google for Apple Pie Filling Freezer Recipes, you'll get several. I have frozen apple pie filling in the past and it was easy and :yum: This year I canned my apple surplus becuase my freezer was already full of the peach abundance from this year!

Do you can? Applesauce and apple butter are quite easy to put up, but I know you mentioned freezing.

Enjoy those apples!

Applesauce

1/2 stock pot cored apples (peeled if you like, I don't)
add 1 c water
1/4 sugar
1 t cinnamon

Bring to boil and cook until apples are SOFT - 20-30 minutes. Let cool a little and then run everything through your blender, unless you have a food mill. I find the blender easier. The peel will get all chopped up. Then you can spoon it into plastic containers and freeze it. I use the cheap kind from ziplock. Will last up to a year.

My kids think it is apple ice cream and beg for it for dessert;)

Thanks for the recipes ladies!
I didn't know you can make caramel dip - the kids are going to love that one for sure. I only hope that I can stick with my diet with all of this cooking/baking. Oh my.
Michelle, I do not know how to can  so I'll have to stick with things that I can just make, or freeze.
I'll going to try googling the apple pie filling frozen thing next. And that applesauce recipe looks great - I love not having to peel the apples - what a chore.
Thanks again!

I made some Apple Butterscotch Bars this morning. I used 2 cups whole wheat flour (sifted) and 1/2 cup white flour and they turned out really good.
:yum:

Apple Butterscotch Bars

2 c. sugar
1 c. oil
3 eggs, beaten
1 t. vanilla extract
2-1/2 c. all-purpose flour
2 t. baking powder

1 t. baking soda
1 t. salt
1 t. cinnamon
3 c. apples, cored, peeled and chopped
1 c. chopped nuts
1 c. butterscotch chips

Combine sugar, oil, eggs and vanilla in a large bowl. Mix in flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt and cinnamon; mix well. Stir in apples and nuts. Spread in a lightly greased 13"x9" baking pan; sprinkle with butterscotch chips. Bake at 350 degrees for 40 to 45 minutes. Makes about 3 dozen.

We melt a stick of butterin a skillet, stir in about 1/2 cup of brown sugar and a little cinnamon then stir in lots of apple slices and stir them around until they are tender. Not a healthy recipe, but fun and yummy!

If I had large amounts of apples and no means of canning them, I would slice them thin and dry them in the oven at the lowest setting for a few hours. Then, when you want to make a pie, you can rehydrate them with water or apple juice.
Here is one recipe for dried apple pie:

Unfortunately, I can seldom keep dried apples in the house long enough to make pie; the kids gobble them up as fast as I make them!

I just was looking on the Pillsbury website and some of these recipes look super yummy! I am going to try them with the apples we get from going to the orchard a a few weeks. I am especially eyeing the:

Caramel Apple Biscuit Pops
Slow-Cooked Apple Praline Crisp
Caramel Apple Shortcakes!

Here is the link - I hope it works!
