We're doing Mirette this week but a combo ear/sinus infections has wiped me out. Yesterday I couldn't even read the book - I just had dd narrate the story back to me (with prompting from me) while I laid on the couch trying not to fall asleep and then we breifly talked about perfoming artists. She's been wanting to know what the "project" for the book is and, quite frankly, I don't have one. I am planning on us making a quiche and crepes either tomorrow or Friday depending on how I feel. But I need something artsy/crafty that takes very little effort on my end to set up and something that I can get her going and just let her go while I go rest.

I happened to have a ballet video (garage sale) that she sort of watched ealier this week that showed one of Dega's ballerina pictures at the beginning. I noticed that it was sort of the style of the pictures in Mirette and think I can connect the two (especially with ballet/dancing being a perfoming art) - so something that ties into Degas would also work.

Any ideas?

Well, this isn't exactly Degas, but do you have pipe cleaners around? Let her make a lot of pipe-cleaner people in different ballet and high wire poses. You can even offer fabric scraps for dressing them in ... some of Degas' statues are dressed too.

Kristen-

Perfect! I have pipe cleaners and fabric scraps. We just did Red Clogs two weeks ago and we can use the stick figure pictures as a guideline on bending the pipe cleaners. That should be enough for her to grasp the concept and then I can have her create and dress performing artists from Mirette/Degas.

Thank you!
