I found a nice book that we read this week while rowing Mike Mulligan:
Sky Boys
How They Built the Empire State Building
by Deborah Hopkinson & James E. Ransome
It touches on some history of what's going on in the world at the time the Empire State Building was built (1930-31) through the eyes of a boy watching. The inside cover has a collage of b/w photos of the construction. The artwork in the story is also very well done. We really enjoyed the book and found it very interesting. I had picked it up since Mike & Mary Ann dug the cellars for the tall sky scrapers in the city. :)
