I needed to remember (but can't) the super simple classification for B4's animals. I know people get really elaborate "vertebrates" etc. I saw something one time like "flies, swims, runs slithers etc.. like I said, can't remember.
With Ryan this year we really need simple. Can anyone remember? I thought it was in the old archives under the General B4 title.
Thanks for your help! :)

Yeah, I've read that. There was just someone here who had a catchy little phrase that rhymed that they used for animal classification. It was quite a while ago, I was just hope to find someone who knew it. Thanks.

Was it "Feathers, fins, scales, or skin"? I ask my kiddos that when we play "I'm thinking of an animal."

...but I can share with you what we did this past year.
I made an "Animal Book" out of construction paper and drew/paste a picture of a habitat for each page:
*a pond
*a forest
*a dessert/outback (I can't remember right now)
*a beach/ocean
*a farm & country scene
*a sky (for birds or other things that fly)
After reading each story, we looked for images of the animals (someone had put together animal clasification cards that we used...maybe homeschoolshare...I am not sure).
I gave my son glue and ask him to look through the pages of the book and glue the animal where he thinks the animal would live.
This was so simple and fun and gave us a lot to talk about. He got it right most of the time but sometimes he had a creative reason for placing an animal in a page that was not were "I" thought it should be but I still let him place it where he wanted. ;)

That is it! Thanks.
Ely, I like your idea too, b/c that might be closer to Ryan's developmental range. :) Thanks for the extra idea!

Cool! Try this link (http://www.learninghaven.com/science/articles/classification_chart.htm)! I just found this today!;)
I had to share this with you ladies. :D
We've had an animal classification notebook for about a year because we just don't have room for the cool tri-fold board many FIARowers have made. BUT, we've never really liked it. So, I decided to try something new!
Anyway, I used the fur, feathers, fins, etc. idea and made it into pockets. Then I put them on a file folder (folded lapbook style). My son is in FIAR (not Before), but these cues really help him! In fact, now he really knows the right terms (amphibian, reptile, etc.) after working with the pockets (I also wrote the correct term on each pocket. He added some stickers to the pockets, too.
Here is a picture on my blog (http://www.homeschoolblogger.com/walkingbytheway/378751/). :)

:hi: I don't know if you still need this but I came across it today and remembered your post. I think this may be what you're looking for. www.homeschoolshare.com. click on FIAR resources, then General resources, and finally Animal Classification system. Go down a little ways and you'll see the link to the pdf file. (Sorry I can't seem to make a direct link to the page work:unsure: ) Hope this helps!!
