One or two weeks for most titles? I see the manual says to make sure you read the book every day for your one to two week study.
This will be our first year with volume 4. Can most books go two weeks? Just planning out a rough road map for the year.
Also, I'll be doing FIAR with my 5yo and 7yo so that's K and 2nd grade. Will I need to choose a different title for my Ker?
Thanks!

This last year we did about a week and a half per book, sometimes more, sometimes less. I just loved vol. 4 and wanted to do everything, it was all so great. Two of my boys were older and I wanted to dig in a bit more with them. I looked over the manual prior to the week and decided what we were going to do and about how much time I wanted to take for that book.
We spend about 2 weeks on vol.4 titles. I read the book every other day. We also make notebook pages. I think some people row these titles for a week and then rerow them to cover the rest of the lessons. My children prefer two weeks straight.

Well, as always, it depends how many lessons you want to cover. ;)
Eli is LOVING Vol. 4 but we are taking 2 weeks/book. I have about half of them planned--and we plan to take about 2.5 weeks for Albert because there is soooo much science in it and he is my science guy. ;)
We row two weeks per book. We don't read the book every day -- probably 3x/week.

We started with Roxaboxen last week; I had planned one week for it (which got messed up a bit, when Daniel was gone for 2 days with my dad), so I think we will finish it this week, then start The Raft next week. I think I am planning two weeks per book from here on out. Then again, we may just be playing it by ear!;)

We did at least two weeks, and occasionally three (but that's stretching it for interest level). There is just too much good stuff to do not to schedule 2 weeks!
The second week we didn't read the book every time, although we discussed it.
I do think that rowing Vol 4 for two weeks is also a good "stepping stone" in preparation for Beyond, where rowing takes 1-2 months. I wasn't thinking of this when we rowed Vol 4, but the two week plan did help us get into the Beyond way of doing things.
We really loved Vol 4, and I know you will too!

Interesting observation...Thanks for sharing!
Btw, it is good to see you, Marie. :) How are you & what's going on with the pending move???

We have averaged ourselves 2-2 1/2 weeks per title. When we go over 2 weeks it's usually because the kids get excited about a topic in a book and want more of it! We have sure loved Volume 4 so far! We have only rowed about 1/2 of the titles in it and are very much looking forward to hitting the rest very soon. I can't wait to row Arrabella. I found a ship in a bottle kit for the kids to have fun with! :D

I can't answer your BY question, but we are doing FIAR with a 7yo & 5yo. We do the same book, and mostly the same activities, and I don't worry too much if they go over my 5yo's head. I figure at least she's been introduced to them. However, my 5yo is really working at a first grade level (doing most of the books her sister did last year) in most subjects.

We are finding about 4 weeks works for us... but we only do FIAR 2x per week. The other 2 days we play games, read history books, go swimming... ;) We are big time rabbit trailers and often find ourselves bouncing around within a book. FIAR is awesome for that!!
Besides, at this rate we'll be able to use FIAR/BY/A&BY until my 4 younger children are teens. :roflol:
