The FIARside Chat is a Moderated Chat.
From time to time, we will have guests to the FIARside Chat, so for their convenience, as well as everyone else's, the FIARside Chat will be moderated. The way a moderated chat works is simple. In order for there to be a little "organized chaos" we ask that you wait to be acknowledged by the moderator before asking a question. It's easy.
If you have a question or comment, simply type "?" or "!" There's no need to type your name first, as the chat server provides that to the rest of the visitors automatically. You won't see your own name, but everyone else will. While waiting for the moderator to respond to you, it's a good idea to type out your question or comment so you will have it ready to go. Once the moderator responds to you (i.e. "Go ahead, Sue.") all you will have to do is press ENTER and your pre-typed question or comment will appear on the chat screen. At that point, you are given the freedom to converse back and forth with the guest, until the moderator gives someone else the opportunity to participate. Please respect this as some will have been waiting for some time to have their questions asked.
When the chat forum does not include a special guest, the moderated chat works in the same way. The moderator will ask for responses to your questions from the audience. (Clear as mud?):>)
After the first hour or so of moderated time, the chat moderator will let you know it's time for a "free for all" chat. From that time on, there will be no moderation, and you basically "Enter at your own risk." :>)
I'm looking forward to our chat time together, and hope you will join us!
