In the six short years since the first copy of Five in a Row appeared, we have received literally thousands of emails and letters asking us to please write materials for older children. In 1998 we introduced Beyond Five in a Row for ages 8-12 and the response has been absolutely overwhelming. We are now proud to announce the first unit of Above & Beyond Five in a Row for ages 12 and up.

This new series features individual learning units based on classic literature and invites students to continue learning the Five in a Row way as their knowledge base and life skills increase.

The first unit, or first "adventure" as we choose to call it, is based on the classic book Hitty- Her First Hundred Years by Rachel Fields. Work level is appropriate for students in the 12-14 age range. You'll find a rich variety of lessons and activities including Exploring My World (history & geography), Science & Stuff, The World of Words (language arts), Create, Express and Appreciate (fine arts), Getting Along With Others (human relationships), as well as a unit research paper project and a community service project.

Above & Beyond Five in a Row places an increasing emphasis on student responsibility and initiative under continuing teacher guidance. Each unit may last anywhere from several weeks, to several months, depending on how it is used and is intended to be used along with math, spelling and grammar curricula.
